Every Valentine’s Day, RAFI receives so many beautiful floral donations of leftover flowers that weren’t bought for loved ones. Anticipating the overflow, we hosted a pop up event where participants made heart shaped willow bouquets. We had so much fun and shared so many laughs. The creative freedom and expression ran deep- no two bouquets looked alike. Each one was as individual as the person creating it.
There were so, so many roses. Gorgeous roses of all colors and varieties. And we had red rose bouquets overflowing in the cooler. We pulled them out and invited our guests to take a bouquet and share with someone, which nearly everyone did and we still had a million left!
It was a gorgeous 70 degree evening in February in Indy. People were milling around, enjoying the weather and the local cuisine of our neighborhood restaurants.
I grabbed the cart of roses and started to walk down our street and hand them to people randomly. The cleaning ladies next door each received a bouquet. Two gentlemen talking also had flowers given to them. It was a gorgeous 70 degree evening in February in Indy. People were milling around, enjoying the weather and the local cuisine of our neighborhood restaurants. I gave everyone I saw a bouquet. The look of surprise on everyone’s face was magical. People gasped, people laughed, one man told me I was crazy while laughing. My heart was so full.
Coming back to the workshop, I gave a bouquet to one of our neighbors, Jon Edwards. Jon and his partner, Chris, own BliceEdwards, directly across from RAFI. Jon came over to the workshop and hung out with me and Patti and we got to know each other while Jon made two bouquets to be delivered to folks in healthcare settings. The conversation flowed freely and it was the perfect end to a perfect night.
Getting to know our neighbors, celebrating community, bringing joy to others randomly. This is the body and spirit of Random Acts of Flowers Indy. We are glad you are here.
Also, check out BliceEdwards! Jon and Chris create amazing murals throughout the city. Check out their website, you’ve definitely seen their work around town.
